There are many causes of dental emergencies, including facial trauma due to cavities, abscesses, motor vehicle accidents, accidental falls, sports injuries, interpersonal violence and work related injuries. Types of facial injuries can range from injuries of teeth, such as biting and fracturing teeth, to extremely severe skin and bone injuries. Typically, facial injuries are classified as soft tissue injuries (skin and gums), bony injuries (fractures), or injuries to special regions (such as the eyes, facial nerves or the salivary glands).

As with any trauma to the mouth, you should consult with Dr. Chan immediately to determine if treatment is required. If an office visit is recommended, he will examine the affected area and may take x-rays.
